Plant in focus: *HIBISCUS* ( _hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn_ )

*Hibiscus* is a most common garden shrub used for hedges or decoration esp around homes.

It grows in any soil with little care. The flower is solitary, half opened in the morning but as weather warms up, it fully opens.

The foliage is deep green or variegated.

*MEDICINAL USE:*

1. *Coughs & colds:*
The decoction of hibiscus roots is used for coughs & colds.

2) *Gentle laxative & softener of INFLAMED parts:*
The leaves make a gentle laxative & soften inflamed parts.

3. *Soothes internal & external wounds & sores.*
The application of the crushed flowers soothes external wounds & sores.

4. *Also softens alimentary tract & relieves inflammation:*
The infusion of the petals of the flowers soothes & protects the alimentary tract, relieves inflammation.

5. *Lowers body heat:*
Use as 4 above to lower body heat.

In fevers, an infusion of the flowers help reduce body temperature.
